One of the values of Generation Church is that we don’t just recruit volunteers, we empower history-makers.
I am a firm believer that the future of the church isn’t more professional clergy, it is in the laity stepping up to the plate and being ready to hit.
For me volunteers are my heroes! Anyone can go to church, anyone can go to extra services, anyone can help once in a while. However, it takes someone with character to commit to becoming a volunteer. When I say volunteer I don’t mean those people who help out at the yearly harvest festival. I mean those who every month commit to turn up early or stay late to help the work of the church. Those who may miss service or spend a few weeks in kids church giving to others without receiving. Those who do the jobs no-one else wants to do, or people rarely see. These are my heroes!
Yesterday we prayed for our volunteers at Generation Church. As we are moving into our new location we more or less have to triple our volunteer base. In order to do this I don’t believe it is just a matter of scheduling more people to help. I believe the way to do this is to empower people to lead, create and own their individual areas. In fact, it’s more about me getting out of the way so that others can get in the way!
I’m praying that our volunteers will be greatly blessed for their service and commitment. I’m praying that Generation Church will have a serve others first culture. I’m praying that future leaders and pastors will be built up and empowered through their small acts of service!
